Molloy racks up the honors

Rockville Centre’s Molloy College keeps raking in accolades, the latest being named one of the top 10 small colleges in the North for Master’s Degree Programs in Health Care Management.

The niche recognition was delivered by the Healthcare Management Degree Guide. Molloy’s Healthcare Management degree program is still a fledgling field at the school, having only been created two years ago.

“The MBA in healthcare management is a great MBA that builds on the strength of our reputation in the marketplace for healthcare delivery and the growth of the business program,” said Maureen Mackenzie, the dean of the business division at Molloy.

Molloy College was ranked No. 10 on the list, beating out schools like Mount Saint Mary’s University and the Rochester Institute of Technology. The University of Scranton in Pennsylvania topped the list.

The schools were ranked based on criteria like acceptance rate, cost of attendance, number of degrees available, the specialization of degrees, accreditation and more.

What helped Molloy stand out was its three unique degree options in the healthcare management program. There is a Master of Nursing Administration and Informatics, Master of Business Administration in Healthcare and a dual Master of Nursing/Master of Business Administration.

According to Mackenzie, the programs are designed for those versed in business who want to learn more about health, and those in nursing who want to take on larger roles in administration.

“You couple these colleagues in the classroom, and it’s very magical,” she said. “They seek to understand each other, and there’s a real collegial respect for each other.”

By the end of the program, she said, it’s hard to tell who came from the business world and who was from medical.

It’s just the latest accolade that the college has received in recent months. Molloy has also been ranked among the best in the country for alumni earnings by Georgetown University, was rated the best dorms in New York by Niche.com, was named a “Best Value” college by Money Magazine for the second year in a row and many others.

“Every time we turn around, Molloy has been fortunate enough to get some really positive recognition,” said Ken Young, director of public relations.
