Molloy's Irish Studies Institute offers pop culture lecture

The Irish Studies Institute at Molloy College is offering a lecture entitled “Irish Culture Meets Pop Culture," detailing how 100 years of Irish culture has influenced American popular culture.

Topics to be covered include: Thomas Nast's Irish cartoons and their influence on early American cartoons; Irish stage plays and songs, and their relation to popular culture; Irish folk music and its influence on Dylan and the American folk scene; Samuel Beckett's influence on Seinfeld; and Bono's influence on what it means to be an American today.

The lecture will be given by Brian Cogan, Ph.D. chairman of the Communication Arts and Sciences Department,who is also a media ecologist; and author. It will take place on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m., in the Reception Room of Kellenberg Hall on Molloy's Rockville Centre campus.
