Highway maintenance worker struck on Wantagh State Parkway

Pedestrian hit, southbound lanes temporarily shut down south of Southern State

UPDATE (2:20 p.m.):

State police released further information about a collision that occurred on the Wantagh State Parkway during the morning of June 19.

A 51-year-old Department of Transportation highway maintenance worker was struck by a sedan while placing orange traffic cones in the rightmost southbound lane near exit W4. The collision occurred at approximately 8:13 a.m.

The worker and the vehicle operator were both taken to a nearby hospital.

Southbound roads on the Wantagh State Parkway south of the Southern State Parkway were re-opened during the afternoon.

A pedestrian was struck on the Wantagh State Parkway during the morning of June 19, according to the New York State Police Department.

The accident took place south of the Southern State Parkway between exits W4 and W5. All southbound lanes south of the Southern State were closed due to the crash.
