Police: 4 charged with weapon possession in Merrick

Cops allege one individual carried a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol

The Nassau County Police Department's Special Investigations Squad arrested four individuals and charged them with weapon possession on Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Merrick, according to police.

At 10:45 p.m., police said, two plainclothes detectives observed a gray 2010 Infinity speeding at 50 mph in a 30-mph zone as it was driving southbound on Babylon Turnpike in Roosevelt and into Merrick. The vehicle turned eastbound on Sunrise Highway, where it was pulled over by detectives. Police said that as a woman got out of the vehicle, a detective spotted a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol, which turned out to be loaded.

Stephanie Jones, 25, of Hempstead, Lloyd Madison, 24, of Freeport, Victor Moore, 20, of Hempstead, and Maurice Vanderhall, 25, of Roosevelt, were arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The defendants were to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead today.
