Seaford firehouse to undergo renovations

Posted

The Seaford Fire District headquarters is home to the many dedicated volunteers who serve their community. It’s also used to host town events such as the annual tree lighting for the holiday season. But over the past few years, it has become apparent that this location is in need of attention and care. And over the course of the past year, the Seaford Fire Department has been working on a project to renovate the headquarters and create a better atmosphere within them.

When the need to repair and freshen up the headquarters became apparent, Dave Denenberg gave his support while he was a Nassau County Legislator. “Assisting those who keep our neighborhoods safe is always a priority,” said Denenberg in a statement about his decision to secure a $40,000 grant for the location.

Denenberg also secured a grant for the purchase of thermal imaging cameras and fire hydrant connectors. “These much needed renovations provide an updated, safer headquarters for our firefighters and a better location for community events.”

Renovations will include new kitchen appliances, removing asbestos, reinsulating walls, updating floors and ceilings and, ultimately, making the location more comfortable for all who use it.

“We’re just trying to modernize and freshen up the building, taking out what’s old and making it new,” said Commissioner George Von Glahn, chairman of the board of Fire Commissioners.

Accordingly to Von Glahn, certain features of the building, such as the kitchen, haven’t been taken care of since the building first opened. The renovations are more wear-and-tare than anything else.

With all of the repairs, installments and updates, the entire renovation process should cost around $500,000. It was prolonged from last year due to financial reasons. With Denenberg’s grant and the fire department’s contribution, the renovation process is now under way.
