Seaford Middle School Student Saves Baby Opossums

Posted

Kevin Weir a seventh grader who found a dead opossum on the street with live babies. He learned one week ago, at the Tackapusha Museum and Preserve on a science field trip that baby opossums can survive 36 hours after the mother has died. He also learned that possums are marsupials and carry their babies in a pouch. Since he found that out he went toward the mommy opossum and checked the pouch for babies. There was a 4-5 liter wiggling around on the hot, boiling street. We called Tackapusha and they came right away and grabbed the opossum by the tail and brought it to the museum where the babies will be tube fed for 100 days straight." So very humanitarian of my son!"
