East Meadow students’ performance on the 2011-12 state English Language Arts and mathematics assessments, given to those in grades 3 through 8, saw some noticeable gains when compared to results in 2010-11.

The results of this year’s exams, released by the New York State Education Department, also revealed that East Meadow schools’ scores were above the state and county averages across the board.

The district noticeably improved in grade 4 ELA by 8.1 percent and grade 7 ELA by 9.8 percent. The district did not comment on what may have contributed to the boost, but are pleased with the results.

“We work very hard to provide a comprehensive program for all of our students,” said Cindy Munter, assistant to the superintendent for curriculum and instruction, “and we are pleased with our students’ achievements.”

While the schools did better than other districts, internally there was a small dip in grade 5 math, 89.3 to 87 percent pass rate, and grade 8 math, 86.1 to 80.9 percent pass rate.
