Story Pirates visit Bowling Green

Posted

Bowling Green Elementary School students were recently inspired to write creative stories by a unique performance from the Story Pirates, East Meadow School District officials said.

Story Pirates is a national, respected education and media organization founded in 2003 to celebrate the words and ideas of young people, according to the group’s website. By pairing world class teachers with first-rate actors and comedians, their mission statement says, they offer a variety of tools to make learning more engaging and effective. Their programs and professional development services for teachers are in place in more than 250 schools in America.

The Story Pirates visited Bowling Green on Nov. 9. District officials said they gave an interactive performance by using puppets, dances and songs to showcase stories written by youngsters from across the nation. The subject matter ranged from scary bumblebees, baking for a friend’s birthday party and teaching siblings how to take care of pets.

After the show, students were encouraged to write their own stories and submit them to the Story Pirates. Their pieces might be included in the group’s future performances.
