New York American Water began a $900,000 effort to install nearly 4,700 feet of new water mains in Malverne on June 28, the company reported.

Six inch water mains, originally installed in the 1920s, are scheduled for replacement with new 8- and 12-inch ductile iron mains as part of a summer-long project in the village, the company said. The effort also includes replacement of nearly 125 utility-owned service lines and seven fire hydrants.

Water main replacement will occur on the following blocks, weather permitting. It is estimated that all four projects will take four weeks to complete once they begin.
