The Space at Westbury opens its doors

The Space at Westbury, a newly refurbished concert hall and ballroom on 250 Post Avenue, opened its doors for the first time on Sept. 17. The venue hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and media tour, the first opportunity for outsiders to see the ballroom, which has spent the last couple of years under renovations.

The venue first opened in 1927 as the Westbury Movie Theater. But in the 1970s, attendance dropped and the building became dilapidated, and ultimately closed.

Owner Cyrus Hakakian recently partnered with Lowe Properties to refurbish the arena, and beginning next month, it will host regular concerts.

It is partnered with Bowery Presents, a nationally known live entertainment promoter, which is making its debut on Long Island.

The Space at Westbury’s opening concert is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4, when Fountains of Wayne and Soul Asylum, including special guest Evan Dando will perform. Tickets are now available.
