Merrick Theatre to perform ‘Parade’

The Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts will be performing the dramatic musical “Parade” from May 13 through June 11. The story takes place in 1913 Brooklyn and follows Leo Frank, a Jewish man who is put on trial for the murder of 13-year-old Mary Phagan, a factory worker under his employment. Already guilty in the eyes of everyone around him, a sensationalist publisher and a janitor’s false testimony seal Frank’s fate. His only defenders are a governor with a conscience and, eventually, his assimilated southern wife who find the strength to love to become his greatest champion. Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $22 and, Friday and Sunday only, $20 for seniors and students.
