Three young people were rescued from an overturned boat in East Rockaway Inlet near the Silver Point  and Sun N Surf beach clubs on July 23, officials from the Inwood Fire Department said.

The City of Long Beach Fire Department received reports of an overturned boat in the area of Atlantic Beach at 2:45 p.m. Emergency responders from Atlantic Beach Rescue, and the Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Long Beach fire departments canvassed various locations.

With the help of information from NYPD, Long Beach and Inwood responders the boaters were found. Silver Point and Sun Surf lifeguards immediately deployed from the shore along with Inwood firefighter James Notarnicola.

Boats from all the departments launched converging on the three people. The rescue swimmers  made contact with the victims and awaited pickup from the Atlantic Beach Rescue boat after a long swim.

The three men, who were wearing personal flotation devices, were taken to a staging area for treatment and transport to local hospitals by Nassau County police ambulance,  the Woodmere Fire Department and Long Beach F.D. All three did not have life-threatening injuries, Inwood officials said.

All the air and marine partners from Inwood, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Long Beach, FDNY, NYPD and Coast Guard Station Jones Beach searched for the capsized vessel. The boat was found by NCPD Marine and towed in. “Great coordination, rapid response and strong swimming made for a positive outcome,” Inwood officials said.
