It’s not often you see a kid behind the wheel of a fire engine or construction vehicle, but last Friday, that was exactly the case in Valley Stream.
The children weren’t racing off to a fire or digging up a road. They were staying put in the Hendrickson pool parking lot as the village hosted its annual Truck Day program for local nursery school students.
Several trucks were available for children to see including fire engines, an ambulance, tree-trimming truck, dump truck and bulldozer. Children got to sit in the driver’s seats, honk the horns and see the equipment on board.
Students from Holy Trinity and Grace United Methodist nursery schools came during morning and afternoon sessions to view the rigs under sunny skies. Village Highway Department employees and volunteer firefighters helped out.
