To celebrate Black History Month, Tuskeegee Airman Dabney Montgomery spoke to an audience of nearly 200 people at the Second Baptist Church in Baldwin last Friday.

The evening opened with Montgomery and his wife Amelia sharing his life experiences with the audience. Guests soon learned about Montgomery’s rich history that has spanned more than 80 decades and that he has been deeply involved in the Civil Rights struggle in the United States. He was not only a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, but he was also a body guard for Martin Luther King Jr. during the Selma march, and was invited to have breakfast with President Obama on the morning of the Inauguration in 2009.

He talked about not being able to register to vote in Alabama, and being fearless in joining the non-violent civil rights movement led by Martin Luther King.

The audience then viewed the movie “The Tuskegee Airmen.”
