Valley Stream Chabad offers pre-Passover relaxation

Almost 40 women gathered at Temple Hillel on April 3 to decompress from their Passover preparations, which include destroying or selling leavened food, cleaning appliances and setting the table for the first two Seders. During the Seders — which are held on the first and second night of the holiday — Jews eat matzo, read the story of Exodus, drink four cups of wine and sing songs.

“Passover requires a lot of work,” said Itty Goldshmid, co-director of the Chabad. She said that she decided to create the Women’s Social Night Out to “give women a chance to relax” and get ready for the holiday both spiritually and physically.

At the event, the women participated in a Zumba class, did yoga, drank smoothies, received massages and spoke about the biblical requirements for the holiday, Goldshmid said, and added that she hopes all of them have a “happy, healthy and spiritual Passover.”

The holiday begins this year at sunset on April 19 and lasts until sunset on April 27.
