The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors hosted a fundraiser at The Inn on West Beech Street last Saturday, July 17, as it gears up for its annual 5K race and welcome parade for wounded soldiers and their families.

The proceeds of the event provide a week of activities in Long Beach from July 24 through July 29 for 30 brave service men and women, their families and families of the fallen. The race and parade will be held on July 25 at 9 a.m. on the boardwalk at Riverside Boulevard. Early registration is $20, $25 day of the race.

The parade will be held on July 25 following the race, starting at 3:30 p.m. at Ohio Avenue.

The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors organization was formed in 2009, providing the first visit to Long Beach by wounded soldiers and their families. In addition to the trip, the LBWW supports soldiers throughout the year by providing services such as medical treatment and evaluation, temporary housing, and shipping holiday gifts to those who are overseas.

The soldiers are coming in from across the country, including 11 U.S. Marines and 19 U.S. Army soldiers, all assigned to Walter Reed Medical Center.

"The fundraiser was an example of how the community came out to support these guys, and the same community will be there for the parade," said executive committee member Jerry Snell. "We've been in contact with the soldiers and they're really looking forward to coming up."
