Writing the body

Rockville Centre artist Naomi Grossman will be featured in a one-person show at the Queens College Art Center from Dec. 13-Dec. 23. There will be a reception for the artist on Dec. 13 from 1-4 p.m.

“Writing the Body” presents an extensive range of Grossman’s exploration of drawing in two and three dimensions. Wire sculptures that reference the human form function as drawings in space and frequently become parts of installations. Highly expressive drawings on paper and in mixed media combine a calligraphic line with painterly figuration to suggest deeply personal statements. Cropped nude photographs inquire into intriguing relationships between the visual expression of the human form and its multilayered meanings.

This is an opportunity to see how Grossman’s wire sculptures, mixed media paper drawings, large prints based on photo/mixed media pieces and drawing installation all form a dialogue together. Words are swirling through the light-filled space, creating a thought-provoking, moving atmosphere.

The gallery is open on Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.;on Fridays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. It is closed weekends and holidays except Dec 13 from 1-4 p.m. and on Dec. 22 and 23 from 9-5 p.m.
