Nassau County Police arrested an Elmont teen early this morning and are looking for a second person for allegedly assaulting and robbing a 17-year-old victim behind North High School yesterday.

The male victim was riding his bicycle in the rear of the school when Joshua Hayes, 16, and another person approached him and started a conversation, police said. The victim tried to make a phone call but the second person grabbed his iPhone 6 from his hand. When the victim asked for his phone back, the suspect brandished a black handgun, police said.

At the same time, Hayes allegedly brandished a gold- and silver-colored knife and told the victim to empty his pockets. The unknown suspect tried to search the victim’s pockets, but the victim refused and was struck in the head with the gun, causing a laceration behind his right ear.

The victim fled on his bicycle and school staff helped him call police.

Hayes was arrested at his home without incident at 1:15 a.m. No proceeds were recovered. He was charged with first-degree robbery and was scheduled to be arraigned at First district Court in Hempstead.

The second suspect was described as a black male.
