70 seasons of baseball in Valley Stream

Posted

The Valley Stream Baseball League began its 70th season of play last Saturday following Opening Day ceremonies at Firemen’s Field.

More than 400 players, along with their parents and coaches, filled the bleachers to hear from league President Bob Inzerillo. Mayor Ed Fare threw out the ceremonial first pitch and Heather LaBarbera sang the National Anthem. The children then enjoyed a traditional baseball snack — hot dogs.

The league is open to boys and girls, ages 4-19, on intramural and travel teams. Most teams played their first game of the year on Saturday.

Games will continue through late June. Trophy Day will be held in July followed by the annual championship dinner in September to honor winning teams in the Firemen’s, David Wright and Derek Jeter divisions.
