A farewell to Vinny Ang

Posted

We’d be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge the hard work over the past 20 years of Vinny Ang, who retired on Dec. 28 as Valley Stream’s village clerk. Ang devoted much more than the standard 40 hours a week to the job, and his work has earned the praise of other officials, village employees, community leaders and residents.

Ang was like the chief operating officer of the village: He ran the day-to-day operations. A lifelong Valley Stream resident, he knew the village inside and out, he knew the history and he knew why things were done the way they were done. He served admirably under three mayors and more than a dozen village trustees.

The Herald will miss Ang, who helped our editors and reporters understand the inner working of the village. Whether we had a question on a proposed law, a construction project or any other village business, he always had the answer so we could do the best possible job of informing our readers. He took the time to answer our questions, because he understands the importance of local media when it comes to informing the community.

As others have said, residents of Valley Stream were well-served by having Vinny Ang as village clerk. He is a people person who listened to everyone’s concerns, and he truly cares about the quality of life for Valley Stream residents. He went above and beyond to help people.

We wish Vincent William Ang all the best in his retirement, and we’re sure all Valley Streamers do as well.
