A fitting tribute for Cahill

Posted

To the Editor:

Our chamber publicly expresses its deep and sincere thanks to the participants, and the Valley Stream community at large, for the significance and success of the Ed Cahill Memorial dedication ceremony on July 31.

In a remarkable series of tributes, seven distinguished speakers lauded our friend and longtime mayor of 11 years, each with a different insight into the man whose legacy of honest, straight talk and unique care for and about the community he served will be long remembered. Ed Cahill was a friend first and a public servant second to whom political “doublespeak” was unknown.

From Mayor Ed Fare to former mayors James Darcy and Joanne Antun, to chamber President Debbi Gyulay, and including the Rev. Tom Harold, Rabbi Yitzchak Goldshmid and the Rev. Steven Milazzo, the tributes were fitting and notable in their understanding of Ed Cahill’s makeup. The sizeable group of attendees were impressed.

We wish to again thank the village government for its wholehearted support of the project and the many residents of Valley Stream who donated monies to guarantee it happening. Valley Stream is surely a better community because of Ed.
