Table for two

A sweet slice of Italy

Posted

Valley Stream’s Caffe Napoli, a charming venue that specializes in dessert and live music, has returned. It is, however, new and improved, with much more to offer. Owners are now the Iadevaio family — Al, Mary and their son, James — and their partner, Linda Rizzutti. Revamped are the menu and décor, and the entertainment agenda is expanding rapidly.

Known for its unique setting, this eatery is reminiscent of an open air cafe in Italy. Beyond the sweet shop — which is well-stocked with pastries, ice cream, sorbet and gelato — is a party room rich in patio design. Brick and stucco walls decked with plants and posters contain bistro style tables and chairs. Up front is set up for the entertainers, who are easily heard through a state-of-the-art sound system.

While the original Caffe Napoli served only desserts and beverages, the new version includes light snacks, and on certain nights, partners up with a caterer to include dinner with a show, concert or psychic reading. Many of the pastries are imported, as are their Baci gelato and Lavazza coffee. There is even a liquor license on the horizon.

Sipping cappuccino and nibbling on decadent desserts, we enjoyed the romantic Italian tunes of singer and keyboard player, Gianni Gregori. Among other attractions are Jerry Russo (of Sopranos and Criminal Intent fame), Angela from the Sugarz Angel Band, and Lenny Coco & the Chimes. Last month, Caffé Napoli was a site for the filming of a new movie, Lotto, under the direction of actor Richard Castellano. Movie extras were selected from the audience.
