Budgets passed in all four Valley Stream school districts on Tuesday night.

The Central High School District's proposed $100.7 million spending plan passed 2,024 to 1,631. Several teaching and staff positions were cut to make up for a possible $2 million loss in state aid.

"We are delighted that the budget we put before the community met with their expectations and their support," said Superintendent Dr. Marc Bernstein. The budget raises the tax levy by just under 3 percent.

District 13's $41.3 million budget received 1,194 "yes" votes to 934 "no" votes. It is an increase of less than 1 percent over the current year. "We are delighted that the community showed their support," Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Lison said. "They appreciated the low budget-to-budget increase."

Board of Education incumbents Joseph DiSibio and Joan Gartner ran unopposed for three-year terms. DiSibio received 1,433 votes and Gartner got 1,346.

The $26.6 million budget in District 24 passed 504-342. "We're very please that the community supported our proposed budget," Superintendent Dr. Edward Fale said. "This will allow us to continue to offer the best possible educational program to the children of Valley Stream while remaining fiscally prudent."

Three trustees ran unopposed for re-election on the District 24 Board of Education. Tony Iadevaio received 633 votes, Frank Nuara 612 and Larry Trogel 603.

In District 30, there were 414 votes in favor of the $31.9 million budget and 317 votes against. A second proposition to use $1.6 million of capital reserve money for window and ceiling replacements passed 425-288.

"We're grateful for the community's support," Superintendent Dr. Elaine Kanas said. "We look forward to all the great programs we're going to do next year."

District 30's budget includes money for the third year of a six-year technology plan, as well as funding for a new science program.

The long board of education candidate in District 30, Jim Lavery, received 469 votes.

"I think it's a great thing for the children of Valley Stream that all the budgets passed," said District 30 Board of Education President Ken Cummings.
