Central H.S. student receives public speaking award

A Central High School senior won second place in a local public speaking competition last month.

Kayla Brown claimed the prize, which included a grant from New York Community Bank, at the 10th Annual Theodore Roosevelt Association Nassau County Public Speaking Contest, held in Oyster Bay on May 28. As part of the contest, Brown had to write and deliver a five-minute original speech regarding the life, politics, beliefs and career of the 26th American president. All speeches had to be memorized and were evaluated by a panel of judges.

In order to finish second, Brown had to survive several rounds of the contest. It is the second consecutive year that a Central High School student has entered, and placed, in the competition.
