Dime Bank robbed in Valley Stream

Nassau County Police are investigating the second bank robbery in Valley Stream in less than a week. On Dec. 10, an unknown man attempted to rob Dime Savings Bank on West Merrick Road.

According to police, the man entered the bank at 9:40 a.m. and handed a note to the teller demanding cash. When he received no money, he left the bank and fled on foot westbound on Merrick Road.

There were five employees inside the bank at the time. No customers were present and no one was injured.

On Dec. 4, a man robbed TD Bank at Merrick Road and Central Avenue. The robberies are not believed to be connected.

The suspect in the Dime Savings Bank attempted robbery is described as a black male in his 30s with scruffy facial hair wearing a black jacket, gray hooded sweatshirt and eyeglasses. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.
