District 30 picks new superintendent

The District 30 Board of Education will name Dr. Nicholas Stirling as the new superintendent of schools on Tuesday night, according to the meeting agenda posted on the district website.

Stirling will start on Aug. 13. He will succeed Dr. Elaine Kanas who is leaving on July 31 to take over the East Williston School District. Stirling is the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment for the Port Washington School District.

Lisa Rutkoske, the assistant superintendent for business, will serve as District 30's interim superintendent from Aug. 1-12.

According to the agenda, Stirling will receive a three-year contract and will be paid $207,000 per year. He was chosen from a pool of 78 applicants and three finalists.

The Board of Education meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Shaw Avenue School.
