It was a week of excitement and celebration for the students of Shaw Avenue, Forest Road and Clear Stream elementary schools as they celebrated their sixth-grade graduations on June 20, 21 and 22, respectively.

After each class watched a video montage of their time in elementary school, they received words of encouragement from Superintendent Nicholas Stirling, members of the board of education and their respective building principals.

Retirees were commended for their years of service to the district, and students impressed with musical performances as well. At Shaw’s graduation, students sang “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer and “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa (featuring Charlie Puth). Following their dazzling renditions, the band performed “Good Time” by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. At Forest Road’s graduation, the string ensemble and sixth-grade audience wowed the crowd with “Something Just Like This,” by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers and “Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore. They closed out their performance by singing “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. At Clear Stream, the students performed “Time to Say Goodbye” by Teresa Jennings and “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson, touching their loved ones and teachers.

Following their performances, the Valley Stream 30 sixth-graders received their diplomas and officially said goodbye to elementary school. Now, they embark on their next challenge — middle school.
