Editor earns 1st, 2nd in Press Club contest

Scott Brinton, senior editor of the Merrick and Bellmore Heralds, and an adjunct journalism professor at Hofstra University, took home a first place for Editorial Writing and a second place for Business News in the Press Club of Long Island’s annual Media Awards competition.

Brinton received the honors at a dinner at the Woodbury Country Club on May 10.

In the Editorial Writing category, Brinton entered "Heroin, a scourge we must face." In the Business News category, Brinton entered "Prepping for the Big One," an in-depth look at dramatic changes to flood insurance policies issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
