Families get health tips at Franklin

About 100 people turned out to Franklin Hospital’s 16th annual health fair on May 17. After a few years at Memorial Junior High School, the event returned to the hospital’s grounds and was held underneath a large tent.

Guests learned various ways to stay healthy. Many of the hospital’s departments, including orthopedics, emergency services, radiology and the Lions Eye Bank for Long Island, provided health information and demonstrations. There were also blood pressure, cholesterol and other health screenings, as well as tours of Franklin Hospital offered by administration.

The nutrition department provided people with healthy recipes and nutritional education. Health fair patrons were also treated to food samples and a cooking demonstration by Franklin Hospital Chef Domingo Martinez.

The health fair, dubbed “Family Wellness at Franklin,” also featured child-friendly activities such as face painting and a bouncy play area.

“Seeing all of the families and people learning about their health and enjoying the festivities on a beautiful day was wonderful,” said Catherine Hottendorf, executive director of Franklin Hospital. “We look forward to creating more family events at our hospital, and participating in upcoming community events.”

The health fair was organized by Helen White, Franklin Hospital’s community relations manager.
