Fifth Precinct hosts its National Night Out at Wheeler

Posted

The Nassau County Police Department hosted its 40th Annual National Night Out on Aug. 1 at Valley Stream’s Wheeler Avenue Elementary School. Families not only enjoyed an evening of food and giveaways but were able to get some firsthand experience, touching, climbing on, and interacting with the Valley Stream fire engines and police vehicles, not to mention picking up some useful information on crime and fire prevention and safety.

National Night Out is designed to foster a spirit of good faith between residents and police, heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

“For the last 40 years, National Night Out events have been an instrumental part of efforts to strengthen and build authentic relationships between local law enforcement and the communities they are entrusted with serving,” Legislator Carrie Solages said. “I thank the Fifth Precinct, Assemblywoman Solages, and all of the sponsors and stakeholders who helped to make this event fun and safe for all in attendance.”
