‘Flying’ With Recess Monkey at Long Island Children's Museum

Seattle’s celebrated band of teacher-rockers – known as Recess Monkey – makes their Long Island debut when they visit Long Island Children’s Museum with their special brand of “undeniably hip, yet also kid-accessible” music and humor, Sunday and Monday, July 24-25, at 2 p.m.

In high-energy, dance-driven sets, Recess Monkey will offer a bevy of songs from their new superhero-themed CD, “Flying!” along with an array of “greatest hits” from the band’s previous albums. Kids – and parents – can zoom around the room with Drew, Daron, and Jack on “Flying,” join the Monkey Bar conga line, take a soapy ride at the Bubble Factory, and give that loose tooth an extra jiggle with Dr. Wiggle.

As always, Recess Monkey’s hand puppet band manager Mayor Monkey will be in tow, though he usually doesn’t plan what he’ll do on stage until it’s too late.

Recess Monkey weaves puns, jokes stories, and shenanigans into their songs. No play on words is too much of a stretch, and no rhyme schemes are out of bounds for the group’s genre-bending set of catchy, singable and dance-able ditties that NPR described as “inventive, brilliant, multilayered.”

Tickets are $4 with museum admission ($3 members), $8 theater only. Long Island Children’s Museum, Museum Row Garden City.
