The president of the Valley Stream Junior Fire Department was sworn in as the president of the Nassau County Junior Firefighter’s Association at a ceremony at the Hewlett Fire Department on Feb. 28.

Richard Feld was installed by Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and presented with a citation from Legis. Bill Gaylor.

“Our Nassau County Firefighters are the best in the nation and that is due to the hard work and dedication they put into protecting Nassau County’s residents, homes and property,” said County Executive Mangano. “I commend members of the Nassau County Junior Firefighter’s Association for their dedication to serving our county and residents in this special and important way.”

The association was created to bring together all of the Junior Fire Departments throughout the county. There are 42 Junior and Explorer firefighter groups in Nassau County, 38 of which are part of the association. The organization promotes camaraderie and community service, and trains with other departments so that all can gain the ultimate training experience. With the hard work of their advisors and juniors, they have created an organization that will stand strong for years to come, according to a statement from Mangano’s office.
