Storm Update

Most Valley Streamers have power back

Posted

Less than 150 homes in Valley Stream remained without power as of noon on Thursday, the Long Island Power Authority reported. A majority of those homes are in the village.

LIPA was reporting only nine outages in South Valley Stream however Marc Tenzer, president of the Mill Brook Civic Association, disputed that number. He said several blocks in the neighborhood still remained without power on Thursday afternoon. His block alone, Tenzer said, has well more than nine homes.

Tenzer did say that there were several utility trucks in the neighborhood on Thursday afternoon.

At its peak, about 7,000 customers in the community lost power during the weekend storm. Even early in the week, more than 2,000 homes were still in the dark.

Islandwide, LIPA was reporting 1,464 outages as of noon on Thursday, with a majority — 1,074 — in the Town of Hempstead.
