North High School wrestling coach Tom Maddock and his wife, Laura Maddock, were honored at a ceremony at the Melville Marriot on April 29 for being inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Maddock, of Massapequa, has coached the varsity and middle school teams at North for 31 years. In that time, he has supervised more than 600 varsity dual meets and 240 junior dual meets, led 10 conference championship teams, coached 256 All-Conference wrestlers, 46 All-County wrestlers and 11 county champions. Before he came to North, he was a head coach at South High School for seven years.

Laura Maddock was inducted for her leadership roles with various wrestling associations and tournaments.

Tom Maddock graduated from North, where he was the varsity wrestling team captain and was named All-Conference in his junior and senior years. He later established a tournament in honor of his coach, Ralph Jensen.

After graduating high school, Maddock wrestled for Brockport State College. He earned the State of New York College Champion title, won the New York State Intercollegiate Invitational Championship and qualified for the final Olympic trials after competing in the regional trials.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Maddock is a physical education teacher and dean at North. A four-time Conference Coach of the Year, he has contributed to the Nassau County Coaches Association as a member, secretary and committee participant.
