Police seek failed robbery suspect in Merrick

Police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to rob a gas station in Merrick late on Monday night.

According to Nassau County police, at 10:55 p.m., a white male entered the BP gas station at 1577 Merrick Road, approached the clerk and reached into his waistband, as if he had a gun, demanding money from the register.

The suspect was startled by another employee in the building, and fled on foot with nothing. He was last seen heading north on Central Boulevard.

The suspect is described as in his early 20s, with a thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray jeans, a black ski mask and black sneakers with white markings on them.
