Pool should be just for Valley Streamers

To the Editor:

As a resident of Valley Stream for 50 years, I was appalled to learn from some mothers speaking at the Valley Stream Pool that the pool has been opened to Malverne residents. Funny that we didn’t hear a word about this from our mayor, Ed Fare. He seems to always be in the limelight, cutting ribbons and getting his picture in the newspapers. I guess he didn’t want the residents of Valley Stream to know that people from another community have been using the pool.

You see, the residents of Valley Stream pay village taxes and pool pass fees to keep their pool exclusively for the residents of Valley Stream. So why does Ed Fare believe that he can extend that privilege to another community without the knowledge of, or permission of, the residents of Valley Stream? Could it be to close some deficits in the Valley Stream budget, or is he becoming like Mayor Mike Bloomberg just telling the people of Valley Stream that this is the way it’s going to be, like it or not?

I voted for Ed Fare. I am so disappointed that his office would make a decision like this without considering or informing the people of the village. I believe that this should have come up for a vote. I would like to know how other residents feel about this issue. I know that I’m ready to start a petition against this action, because of two reasons: the lack of consideration for the residents of Valley Stream and because we pay enough taxes to keep what is private, private.
