Praise, thanks for Valley Stream high school board

Posted

Students, administrators and PTA members offered their appreciation for the efforts of the Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education, as part of the New York State board recognition month at the Nov. 8 meeting.

Central, North and South high school and Memorial Junior High students each presented tokens of appreciation, including a “joyful” work of art from North and a picture of a student class trip to Washington D.C., symbolizing the commitment to citizenship, from Central. Memorial students gave a mirror etched with a statement saying “Thank You,” to the board, and South students presented a framed picture of their starfish logo, symbolic of their “Small acts make a big difference” motto. South’s class presidents also gave individual boxes of chocolate starfish to each board member.

Margo McKenzie and Ingrid Wylie, co-presidents of the Valley Stream Council of PTAs, each recognized the board members. “This evening, we recognize a group of people who give of themselves to make sure we have a strong voice in our school system,” Wiley said. “Volunteers are not paid not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.”

Superintendent Dr. Bill Heidenreich commended the board for their countless hours of service on both the high school board and their respective elementary boards.
