Twenty years experience in the athletic and fitness field has led Barbara Brenseke, a Certified Fitness Instructor, to launch her own training facility. She has worked in numerous health clubs throughout Long Island. An athlete herself, she competes in Olympic triathlons, marathons, and is a USTA tennis player.

“Our programs are designed to produce athletes who outperform their competition,” said Brenseke. She takes pride in the fact that she has been instrumental in helping young athletes win over a million dollars in scholarships, collectively.

The brand new 2,100 square foot facility, located in the heart of Bellmore, is equipped with everything a professional athlete might need. The floor is a turf field to simulate an outside setting. A Keiser Functional Trainer helps athletes train in their specific sport. The Undulating Rope is used for cardio exercise, and the Resistance Trainer increases speed. The Prowler pushing sled works on the athlete’s power.

Training classes are semi-private, with no more than three athletes or clients and the coach. Each person gets his or her own individualized program, after partaking in the initial one-on-one Functional Movement Screening. Seven different movements are challenged, and the assessment points out the person’s flexibility and imbalances. After that, most people come two or three times a week. Brenseke works with both athletes and adults who simply want a healthier lifestyle.

Since classes are semi-private (as opposed to having a personal trainer), costs can be kept down. The environment is conducive for people to be positive, succeed and have fun. Movement skills, speed, agility, power and strength are all part of the program. Nutritional counseling is available too, which is particularly important to control body fat and weight, if needed.

Brenseke is also a certified Hardstyle Kettlebell (HKC) Instructor, a Class C certified soccer coach with the Long Island Junior Soccer League, and a certified Olympic Weight Lifting Sports Performance Coach. She is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Idea Health and Fitness Association.

Train for the Game offers complimentary sports screenings, which entails individualized assessment of a person’s flexibility, strength, and joint stability. The process takes approximately 30 minutes and includes education on proper warm-up, stretching and posture. If the screening indicates a possible risk for injury, the person will be assigned corrective exercises to reduce the chance of getting hurt. Hours are 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week, by appointment only.
