Skimming device found at Valley Stream ATM

Nassau County Police say a skimming device was a found at a Valley Stream bank ATM machine Sunday morning.

According to police, a 39-year-old man went to use the ATM machine at the Capital One Bank, 5 Green Acres Road, when a device fell off and into his hand. The incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on Jan. 29.

Police were called and 5th Precinct officers found a small camera used to record customers pin numbers. The investigation is ongoing.

Capital One officials say if anyone is concerned that their information may have been stolen from this ATM, they should call (800) 655-2256.

“The security of our customers’ information is of the highest priority to us,” said spokesman Steve Schooff. “Capital One employs an extensive security program, and has processes in place to constantly review and improve controls to stay ahead of new and ongoing threats such as ‘skimming.’ Additionally, Capital One has rigorous fraud protection systems in place, including regular inspections of ATMs to identify any irregular activity and 24-hour video surveillance to identify criminal activity.”
