Legos are back at the library. Once again, the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library is holding its annual children’s Lego display throughout the month of January.

According to children’s librarian Jaclyn Kunz, 20 children have signed up to have their creations displayed. The projects can be viewed in the glass display cases in the adult room for the next few weeks.

Here are some of Valley Stream’s youngest and most creative builders:

Matthew Piniero
Age: 9
School: Holy Name of Mary, fourth grade
Project: “Lego Star Wars Echo Base”
About his project: Matthew built his project from a set. There is one piece that flips up to reveal Anakin Skywalker. He said he made a few changes and had a lot of fun building it. The project took him about five hours to build.
How long he’s been playing with Legos: Six years
If he owned all the Legos in the world: He’d build a life-size rocketship.
Other: Matthew said Legos are his favorite toy, and loves taking a bunch of small pieces and turning it into something big. He wants to be an engineer when he grows up.

Christopher Dunn
Age: 8
School: Shaw Avenue, third grade
Project: “Imperial V-Wing”
About his project: It is a spaceship that he built from a set. The wings rotate, and piece flips up above the cab to put a person inside. It took him about a half-hour to make.
How long he’s been playing with Legos: Three years
If he owned all the Legos in the world: He’d build a big cave.
Other: Although he followed the directions for this project, Christopher said he loves Legos because he can make anything he wants. Last year, his first time in the library’s Lego display, he built a three-story house.

Abhi Patel
Age: 8
School: Brooklyn Avenue, third grade
Project: “Trailer 3000”
About his project: “It carries stuff,” he said. “I was thinking about what I should make, and I thought about a truck.” Abhi said the project took him about a half-day to make, and he designed it himself picking Legos from his extensive collection.
How long he’s been playing with Legos: Five years
If he owned all the Legos in the world: He’d build a huge person.
