Thousands celebrate the Fourth in Valley Stream

More than 4,000 people gathered at Firemen’s Field on July 4 for the annual fireworks show, hosted by the village and Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce. Vinny Ang, assistant to the village Board of Trustees, said it was one of the largest crowds in years.

“I think a lot of people stayed in town and a lot of people came to the show,” he said, noting the cancelation of the fireworks show at Jones Beach and the high gas prices. “It was packed.”

Ang estimated that about 25,000 people lined the streets around the park when the fireworks began. He said people crowded Albermale Avenue, Berry Street and Emerson Place in particular to watch the 20-minute fireworks show.
