Town honors District 24 administrator

Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Town Board members honored District 24’s director of curriculum at the town’s 2015 Pathfinder Awards on March 10 for her volunteer activities outside the district.

Lisa Conte received the award in the community affairs category for her volunteer work at the Bristal Assisted Living community, and more specifically in the Friends of Bridge anti-substance abuse organization. She was also recognized for forging strong relationships with local businesses and senior citizens’ organizations, and for serving on a number of community boards.

Pathfinder awards recognize nine women who live or work in the town who contribute to their community or represent a significant achievement.

“As the first woman to be elected Supervisor in Hempstead’s 371-year history, I take unique pride in this event,” Murray said. “Each year we receive an incredible compilation of nominations of truly deserving women. I am proud to be supervisor of a town with so many accomplished and inspiring ladies.”

Conte was recognized by Friends of Bridge last year with the Friends of Bridge Builder Award. She also received a Women of Distinction Award from the New York State Assembly, and the Service Above Self Award from Lynbrook-East Rockaway Rotary.

Conte’s role with District 24 is to ensure that all students in kindergarten through grade 6 are receiving a proper education, while also bringing the district in line with
