Tree sale is a big success

For the second year, Valley Stream Fire Department Engine Company No. 2, held its Christmas tree sale to help raise funds for company projects, and once again it has proved a great success. All told, the Fire Department sold 285 trees this season with only 15 trees remaining as of press time.

“We got a good pour out, and support from the community last year, so we decided to do the Christmas tree sale again this year,” Valley Stream Fire Chief Jason Croak said. “We would like to thank everyone in the community for appreciating what we do and for appreciating the sale.”

The trees range in size from three to eight feet, with prices running from $35 to $70 per tree. Additionally, visitors can purchase a wreath as well as a tree stand for $20 each. Each wreath was hand-decorated by firefighters.

“My favorite part about the Christmas tree sale is seeing the positive outreach of the community and the Christmas spirit,” said Captain Anthony Capone of Company No. 2. “It’s a happy and joyful time … We love seeing familiar faces and it’s a great thing to do.”

Because of its ongoing success, fire officials said Company No. 2’s Christmas tree sale is likely to return next year.
