Village Election

Valley Stream incumbents will be unopposed

Valley Stream Trustees John Tufarelli and Virginia Clavin-Higgins are all but guaranteed victory in this year’s village election, as they will be the only two candidates appearing on the March 20 ballot.

When the nomination filing deadline passed at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, incumbents Tufarelli and Clavin-Higgins, of the United Community Party, were the only two candidates to submit their petitions. They will be running unopposed for the two trustee seats that are up this year, each carrying a four-year term.

Control of the village board is not a factor in this year’s election, with only two of five seats up for grabs. With victory nearly assured for Tufarelli and Clavin-Higgins, the current village board should remain intact at least until the next election in March 2015.
