Valley Stream school boards pick new leaders

District 24 will have a familiar face as board president during the 2012-13 school year. Tony Iadevaio, who was first elected to the District 24 board in the early 1980s and became a member of the high school board shortly after, will take the role of board president for the sixth time on the elementary school level.

Paul DePace will assume the role as board vice president. Iadevaio said that all of his colleagues on the elementary level are on the same page in regard to the hot-button issues and want what’s best for the students.

But Iadevaio’s responsibilities will not stop at District 24. He was also named the new board president for the Valley Stream Central High School District Board of Education as well. He estimated that this will be his sixth or seventh time as board president there. Iadevaio added that he has never simultaneously served as president of both boards, but doesn’t foresee it being an issue for him.

Elise Antonelli from District 30 will be the high school board vice president for the upcoming school year. There will be one new member on the board, as Joseph DiSibio from District 13 is taking the place of longtime high school trustee Bill Stris. DiSibio said he is looking forward to working on the high school board so he can get a better insight on the issues that impact all of Valley Stream. Stris will continue to serve on the District 13 board.

District 13 hired Caroline Schozer as the new coordinator of curriculum and assessment. Schozer is an assistant superintendent in the Floral Park School District, and will begin her duties in District 13 in August. Also in the district, Jeanne Greco Jacobs was named board president for the coming year and Sean Douglas takes on the role of vice president.
