Valley Stream students win writing contest

Two Valley Stream students were among the winners of the Long Island Arts Council of Freeport Writing Contest. Jalani Johnson won second place for grades 11-12 with the poem “Gradient” and Samiris Feliz won the third honorable mention for the poem “Non Compos Mentis.” The contest was open to students’ grades 9 through 12 and their poems were judged on originality, creativity and artistic quality. The winning poems will be posted on the Long Island Arts Council at Freeport’s website and published in a booklet.
