Wins for V.S. South, Sewanhaka

Valley Stream South 21, West Hempstead 7

Not even heavy rains during the second half could put a damper on last Saturday’s Homecoming at Valley Stream South.

The Falcons opened the game with three consecutive touchdown drives and forced three turnovers on defense en route to a 21-7 Conference III victory over West Hempstead in a battle of previously winless teams. Senior quarterback Terence Meaney had a pair of touchdown runs and went 5-for-8 passing for 55 yards to lead an offense that hadn’t scored since a season-opening loss to Lynbrook. The Rams averted the shutout when junior Kyle Garrett recovered a fumble in the end zone with 1:40 remaining.

Sewanhaka 42, North Shore 0

Brian Wint scored two touchdowns, one on an electrifying 65-yard punt return in the opening quarter, to lead undefeated Sewanhaka to a 42-0 blowout victory over North Shore on Saturday. Devin McRae also scored twice for the Indians, who improved to 4-0 in Conference III.

Sewanhaka scored all the points it would need when Jeffrey Joseph and Jordani Thomas sacked North Shore quarterback Louis Mastellone and jarred the ball loose. McRae pounced on it in the end zone for the early score. Kicker Jean-Pierre Tuberquia, who was 6-for-6 on conversion attempts, split the uprights to give the Indians a 7-0 lead and the rout was on.
