Wheeler Avenue celebrates Multicultural Night

Posted

Wheeler Avenue Elementary celebrated its annual Multicultural Night last month. For the past 21 years, students, families, and community members have shared their cultural traditions through an evening of food, music, dancing, attire, games, and art.

This event resumed in-person after two years of pandemic restrictions. A highlight of the night was an appearance by the Valley Stream South High School’s Cultural Dance Society. The Society performed various dances from around the world, including the Classical Indian Dance, Mexican Skirt Dance, Chinese Ribbon Dance, Chinese Yo-Yo Dance, and many more.

“It was great to see everyone come together to celebrate our diversity and similarities. We are incredibly thankful we had the chance to be together for this year’s event” said Wheeler principal John Frias. “This was a night to learn about our different cultures and to connect with each other through our cultural roots.”
