At 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 27, the Wantagh Fire Department was able to successful contain a house fire at 1862 Plymouth Road in Wantagh. One Wantagh Fire Department firefighter was injured at Wantagh Station 2 while responding to the alarm and was transported to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. His injury was not critical.

Approximately 100 combined firefighters and medics arrived on the scene. Assisting fire departments included Massapequa, North Bellmore, Seaford and Bellmore fire departments.

When firefighters arrived, the flames had spread across both the first and second floors. The fire was visible from outside by the time Wantagh Chief of Department Ken Kelly arrived minutes after the initial call. Flames jutted out from the second floor and attic. By press time, investigations into the source of the blaze were still.

The Plymouth Road house was deemed empty by the fire departments. According to Wantagh Fire Department Public Information Officer Kevin Reagan, the homeowners were undertaking renovations on the home and were not living at the address when the fire arose.

No damage was reported to any neighboring houses.
