The Seaford Wellness Council hosted the 18th annual Hot Chocolate 5K Run at Seaford High School on Dec. 2. The event attracted hundreds of participants ready to run in the chilly December weather.

According to the Wellness Council, all proceeds from the event are used exclusively for positive change in the Seaford Community. Council Treasurer Donna de la Bastide said the athletic event is the council’s sole fundraiser.

“We undertake many projects during the year that benefit Seaford’s school children, our senior population and the public library as well as organize general wellness programs and conduct beautification efforts throughout the hamlet,” Bastide said in a news release.

Post-race celebrations included hot chocolate, bagels, an awards ceremony, and a raffle, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among attendees.

Known as one of Long Island's top community-based runs, this year's Hot Chocolate 5K Run lived up to its reputation, promising not only a memorable event but also a significant positive impact on Seaford's vibrant community.

“This has been a fantastic community event for almost two decades,” Council President Mike DiSilvio said in a release. “The Run/Walk starts the holiday season in Seaford. Runners, walkers, and their families have always had a fun-filled time at the Hot Chocolate Run/Walk.”
